ABOUT THE PROJECT

JAL DHARA is not just a water project — it is a movement of hope, dignity, and survival. Initiated by the Rotary Club of Mumbai Downtown Sealand, under the auspices of:

Rotary Club of Bombay Sealand Foundation (Reg. No: E-14179 Bombay)
Rotary Club of Bombay Downtown Charitable Trust (Reg. No: E-4696)

This movement aims to transform water-scarce tribal villages in Palghar District, Maharashtra, into sustainable, self-reliant model communities.
While Mumbai thrives, just a few hours away, tribal talukas like Mokhada, Talasari, Vikramgad, Vedhe-Chari, Dapti, Bhetwadi, Jawhar Desale Pada, Bhavarpada and many more remain forgotten in time — parched, powerless, and pleading for survival.
JAL DHARA is our commitment to change this reality — One Drop, One Project, One Village at a time.

PURPOSE OF THE PROJECT

The purpose of Jal Dhara — to give water, and with it, give life.
Without access to clean drinking water and irrigation:
• Children remain malnourished and out of school.
• Women walk 4–5 km every day for a single pot of water.
• Farmers abandon their lands after the monsoon ends.
• Families migrate to cities to work as labourers, breaking their roots.
We want to build an Aadarsh Gaav (Model Village) by ensuring:
• 24/7 access to clean drinking water
• Sustainable agriculture throughout the year
• Solar-powered infrastructure for irrigation
• Improved health, nutrition, education, and dignity.

Despite being close to India’s financial capital:

  • Palghar has over 50% tribal population still untouched by basic infrastructure.
  • It is a drought-prone district with poor water retention due to lateritic soil.
  • Post-monsoon, villagers are forced to migrate for survival.
  • Children drop out of school. Women suffer silently. Farmers give up their ancestral lands.

Centuries of systemic neglect have kept these people on the edge of extinction, with livelihood and dignity drained drop by drop.

Rotary Club of Mumbai Downtown Sealand took the first step toward change. In one short year, with compassion and commitment:

  • ✅ 5 check dams were constructed
  • ✅ 4 deep tubewells drilled
  • ✅ Seeds & modern farming guidance provided to farmers

This is just the beginning. But the journey is long — and your support is crucial.

The Project ha dto stop mid-way due to lack of funds, We wish to complete our commitments:

  • 50 hectares of land to be revived for cultivation
  • Women to begin growing vegetables & develop skills for livelihood
  • Children to return to the schools and they have higher education beyond till class 12.
